The Glass

Is the glass half empty
or is the glass half full?
That is how the trick question
seems always to get asked.

Pessimists say half-empty
optimists say half-full
They say that how you answer
determines how you're cast.

There's another answer
that's always overlooked
The glass is both half empty
and half full at the last.

The realist sees that
both things are real and true.
It is a false dilemma
The question's been miscast.

There are both optimists
and pessimists as well
but don't forget realists
who reframe and contrast.
